Welcome to Apperah

Apperah is for real connection — coordinating actual hangouts, sharing plans with friends, making group decisions together. It works because people show up for each other.

These Community Guidelines describe what we expect from everyone on Apperah.

If you do something that goes against these Guidelines, we may take action — see our Acceptable Use Policy for the contractual rules, how enforcement works, and your right to appeal.

Our 5 values

1. Real connection

Apperah is for actual hanging-out and planning real meetings. It’s not for performative content or follower-counting. We build features that help you spend time with people who matter — and don’t reward time spent doom-scrolling.

2. Respect for time

Time is the most precious thing we share. Respect it.

  • ✓ Reply to invites within a reasonable time
  • ✓ Update your RSVP when plans change
  • ✗ Don’t repeatedly cancel at the last moment
  • ✗ Don’t ghost — say so if you can’t make it

3. Inclusive by default

Plans are richer when more people are welcome. Don’t use Apperah to exclude based on identity, background, disability, or anything else that’s not about the activity itself.

  • ✓ Welcoming invite copy
  • ✓ Consider accessibility (venue, time, atmosphere)
  • ✗ Don’t run secret group plans whose point is to exclude a specific person
  • ✗ Don’t refuse to include someone because of who they are

4. Truth in invitations

An invitation is a promise. Keep it.

  • ✓ Honour what you said you’d do
  • ✓ Cancel kindly and with notice if you can’t
  • ✗ Don’t bait-and-switch on what the plan actually is
  • ✓ When you add or suggest an edit to a place, give accurate, first-hand information
  • ✗ Don’t submit fake, misleading, or spam place entries or edits
  • ✗ Don’t invite someone you don’t actually want there

Other people’s details aren’t yours to share.

  • ✓ Ask before posting a photo of someone
  • ✓ Remember that a public post (such as a public Memory) can be seen by anyone — only post publicly what you’re comfortable sharing with everyone
  • ✓ Use AREA precision when EXACT isn’t needed
  • ✓ Get permission before sharing a friend’s plan with strangers
  • ✗ Don’t share a friend’s location with people not in the plan
  • ✗ Don’t post a public Memory that reveals someone else’s home or location without their consent
  • ✗ Don’t post identifiable photos of children without parent consent
  • ✗ Don’t post other people’s contact details

What we don’t allow

These are the categories that will get you suspended or removed. The full enforceable list is in our Acceptable Use Policy.

In summary, no:

  • Harassment, stalking, threats
  • Hate content targeting identity
  • Sexual content involving minors (we report all instances to authorities)
  • Non-consensual intimate imagery
  • Fraud, scams, identity theft
  • Spam at scale, multi-account abuse
  • Illegal activity
  • Coordinated misinformation in high-stakes contexts (elections, public health)
  • Posting other people’s location, photos, or contact info without consent
  • Trying to bypass our protections (rate limits, age gates, content moderation)

Safety and sensitive content

If you see something harmful:

  • Tap “Report” on the content or user
  • We prioritise serious reports and review them as quickly as we can

If you are in danger:

  • In emergency, call your local emergency number (113/112 Norway; 999 UK; 911 US; 112 most of EU)
  • Apperah is not an emergency-response service

Helpful resources:

  • Mental health support: Mental Helse (Norway), Samaritans (UK), 988 (US), per country
  • If you’re being harassed or stalked: NCK (Norway), Refuge (UK), per country
  • If you’ve seen images that exploit a child: report it in-app; on becoming aware, we remove it and report it to the appropriate authorities (such as NCMEC or, in Norway, Kripos) as the law requires

These resources are provided for your benefit; Apperah is not a counselling service. Please reach out to professionals for sustained support.

Younger users

Apperah’s minimum age is 16 everywhere today; we’re introducing per-country minimum ages (as low as 13 where local law allows, higher in a few) — see Privacy Policy §13 and our Youth Safety page.

If you suspect someone you know is under our minimum age but using Apperah:

  • Don’t shame them — encourage them to wait
  • Report to us so we can act

If you’re 16-17:

  • Apperah has no paid consumer features today; if we introduce any, some may require parental consent in your country
  • We encourage you to keep your privacy settings at their most private

AI-generated content

Some content on Apperah is AI-generated (event descriptions from public sources; venue descriptions). Such content carries an “AI-generated” badge where shown, per EU AI Act Art. 50.

Things to know about Apperah’s AI:

  • AI does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you — an automated safety review may decline a public event listing or an Open Invite photo, and you can contest that
  • AI is not training on your personal data
  • If you see something AI-generated that seems wrong, use Suggest an edit on the place or event to fix it
  • You can turn off AI-powered recommendations in Settings > Data & personalization > AI Recommendations

Our public AI commitments: AI Ethics Policy.

Reporting and what happens

When you tap Report:

  1. The report goes to Apperah’s Trust & Safety team
  2. We review promptly, prioritising serious content
  3. We act per our Acceptable Use Policy — content removed / user warned / suspended / terminated
  4. You get a confirmation that action was taken (without revealing the reported user’s personal data)
  5. The reported user will get a written reason and will be able to request a review (we are building the appeals process to meet DSA Arts. 17 and 20)

Reporting a community. You can report a whole community or its content — not only individual posts — if it breaks these Guidelines, including impersonation, undisclosed paid promotion, or unlawful content.

If we get reports that turn out to be manifestly unfounded, we may temporarily suspend your reporting privileges after a warning (per DSA Art. 23 against abuse-of-notice).

Reporting without an account. You don’t need an Apperah account to report illegal content. Anyone can reach our Trust & Safety team at trust@apperah.com — give the link or location of the content, why you believe it’s illegal, and your contact details (you can stay anonymous when reporting child sexual abuse material). Government and judicial authorities can reach us at authorities@apperah.com. These are our official points of contact under the EU Digital Services Act (Arts. 11-12, 16).

Cultural respect

Apperah is global. Behaviours that are merely impolite in one place can be deeply offensive somewhere else. We try to respect that. The Guidelines respect cultural difference; the AUP enforces statutory minimums uniformly (so there’s no jurisdiction in which CSAM, harassment, or fraud is OK).

Updating these Guidelines

We update Guidelines as the platform evolves. We’ll always:

  • Note material updates in-app
  • Keep past versions archived
  • Welcome your feedback
