Where our place information comes from

Apperah shows you places, venues, and events. Much of that information comes from open data built by communities and organisations, credited below. This page explains those sources and how we attribute them.

OpenStreetMap

Map and venue location data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, used under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0.

Overture Maps

Some place and point-of-interest base information is provided by the Overture Maps Foundation, under the Community Data License Agreement – Permissive – Version 2.0 (CDLA-Permissive-2.0). We credit Overture Maps.

Wikidata

Some descriptions and links come from Wikidata, which is released into the public domain (CC0). No attribution is required, but we credit Wikidata.

Public and factual information

Some factual details (such as opening hours, contact details, or category) are gathered from publicly available sources, including venue websites. Factual information of this kind is not subject to ownership; we aim to keep it accurate.

Places suggested by users

Some places are added by Apperah users who suggest them — a name, address, and category, and, where the user knows them, public contact details such as a website, phone number, or email address. Suggestions are reviewed before they are published. If a suggested place is your business, you can claim it and correct its details at any time (see Corrections below).

Events

Our public events directory is built from public information:

  • Finding events. We look for events on venues’ own public websites and pages. To discover festivals and venues’ event pages in the first place, we use a web search service — those searches contain only venue, festival, and place names, never personal data.
  • Understanding events. We use AI to read a public event page and structure it (name, date, place, price). The input is the public page — not your data.
  • Only genuinely public events. Events that are limited to a closed group — members only, employees only, students only, or private bookings — are excluded from the public directory.
  • Venue images. Images from a venue’s public pages are shown only with the venue’s consent; a venue can withdraw consent at any time, and stored image references are then removed.
  • Events from users. Some events are registered by Apperah users and are labelled “User created” — see our Events & Hosting Policy.

AI-generated descriptions

Some place descriptions are generated using AI from public information about the venue, to help you understand it at a glance. They describe venues, not people — no personal data is sent to the AI provider for this. AI-generated descriptions carry a clear “AI-generated” label where shown, together with a machine-readable marker (EU AI Act Article 50). We use third-party AI providers under contract (named in our Sub-processors list). See also our AI Ethics Policy.

How we handle your information from these sources

Where these sources include limited information about people (for example, a business owner’s publicly listed contact details), we explain how we handle it — including information we did not get directly from you — in our Privacy Policy.

Corrections

  • Your business or place — you can claim it and correct the details from the place’s page, or contact support@apperah.com.
  • Other inaccuracies — contact support@apperah.com and we will review them. If the issue is with OpenStreetMap data itself, you can also correct it directly at openstreetmap.org.
